To Aru Majutsu no Index Ep. 4: Perfect Memorization Ability

29 October, 2008

Weird, my computer’s having issues showing raws lately.  I reinstalled CCCP, though, so hopefully that fixes it.

Anyway, I almost let this one slip, but here it is.  One looooong argument, a cute scene with Index, and a not so surprising ending.  It’s almost cliché, to be honest, and I really do wish for some groundbreaking material.  However, I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.  As much as I like the source material, this series is just boooooring.

To Aru Majutsu no Index Ep. 3: Necessarius

Slow episode is slooooow.  It took the entire thing to get Kaori to appear, and the battle between her and Touma hasn’t even started yet.  It feels like the series is trying to build up some momentum so that there can be some really good action later on, but I have a sinking feeling that they’re letting too much build up get in the way of actual progress.  To me, focusing an entire episode on a single event (that really isn’t THAT big, right?) is just an irresponsible use of time and budget.

To Aru Majutsu no Index Ep. 2: Innocentius

I’m interested in this series quite a bit.  It’s a good mix of action, magic, with only a small emphasis on some fan-service.  To me, that’s a recipe for a pretty good show.  It also helps to have a male lead who isn’t a total wuss.  However, I am a little bit concerned about the pacing of the series; if this keeps up, we could be in this for a long, long time.

To Aru Majutsu no Index Ep. 1: Academy City

5 October, 2008

I’ve only read a little bit of the book, and have actually gotten farther in the manga spinoff.  From what I’ve seen in the manga, this is quite an interesting story being told.  However, I’m only familiar with the first part of the series, so my knowledge is limited at best.  This, like Tales of the Abyss, is pretty much hit or miss.  So far (and like any other series I’ve seen so far), we’ve seen almost no story, as we get a fairly short introduction to the world and some of the characters that will be playing big roles in the rest of the series.  I remain hopeful for this, since I really like Index and Mikoto’s characters.  I’m not convinced this is worth watching just yet, but from what I’ve seen, this can be a worthwhile series.  I just need to figure out whether to keep it up, or archive and watch later.
