With this, I finally close Tales of the Abyss. I haven’t gotten around to 25 and 26 for a while, and that’s mostly because…well, didn’t really want to watch it much, really. Got REALLY hard after I started watching other series, too. Higashi no Eden and K-On are so ridiculous they’re actually interesting to me. Other things to worry about too.
In a nutshell, Abyss is one of the better adventures series to come out in recent years, but I don’t think I’ll be rewatching it anytime soon. Not while the game is sitting on my desk, at least.
Short summaries and final impressions following the break.

Getting close to the final battle, and somehow this series just isn’t doing it for me that well. As it reaches some climatic point, shouldn’t it be building the hype, or at least building on the energy it had managed to create before? No, this just continues to slog on through the story set by the video game. The emotion and energy seems to go through highs and lows, as 24 seemed just so incredibly slow compared to its immediate predecessor. I can’t help but think that, with a little more planning and better execution, this could’ve been so much better. Hopefully, though, things can end on a solid note.

So I’ve found that these 12-screenshot formatted posts works pretty well for Tales of the Abyss. Sure, I miss out on some of the glitzy stuff I might’ve captured before, but overall it gets the point across. Quite frankly, it’s difficult to carve out some time to do this these days, so this cuts down on my writing and formatting significantly. Plus, my memory is getting fuzzy O_o;;
Anyway, it’s off to the ridiculously tall tower that all Tales of games seem to have. Luke is off to be the martyr…again. Overall, decently executed, but it’s one of those ‘ho hum’ episodes that really doesn’t bring much to the table.

Another two-episode recap of Tales of the Abyss. Gotta say, Episode 20 was kind of depressing…but then they follow it up with a fat lot of NOTHING in 21. Only 4 more episodes to go after this, and it still feels like the story is moving at a snail’s pace. Really odd, considering they’re warping between continents most of the time. I guess I’ll reserve final judgment when all is said and done.

Another double dose of Tales of the Abyss! It’s transition time as we phase from Part II to Part III of the game, complete with new developments!
In other news, I’ll have more of Jigoku Shoujo soon. I have to translate Episode 15 anyway, so I might as well write an entry for it while I’m at it, no?
I do have this to say though – this season has again been rather underwhelming, and I’m watching shows from the previous season (ToraDORAMA, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Tales of the Abyss, Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae). With that said, next season looks pretty good. Shangri-La, yay~! Or, for more mind-numbing madness, Hayate S2! O_o;;

So in my mad rush to get a whole bunch of stuff completed in Tales of Vesperia (an excellent game, by the way…I’ll have to review it when I finish it), I haven’t been able to watch a lot of TV. Well…actually, I have, but they’ve all been basketball games (GO BLAZERS!). So I’m waaaay behind on Mitsuganae, Abyss, and…hey, I’ve missed the last two movies of Kara no Kyoukai? Oh my. So here’s my attempt to at least catch up (somewhat) on Abyss – two episodes in one post! They pretty much make up one long episode, anyway.
UPDATE! Done with Vesperia, round 1. Off to the EX Dungeon, and then another speedster playthrough! Though I may lose interest…nah.

Things are certainly moving along at a fast pace, although it really doesn’t seem like it in the series. There’s a lot of plot to go through (Tales games are epically long, and take quite a few replays to get everything), and only 24 episodes to do it with, so it’s only natural that everthing undergoes a time compression. That said, it’d be nice to get back to some action soon. This is an “adventure” anime after all, and it’s currently lacking a sense of…well, adventure.
